To assist with documenting data sources available to the library and additional data needs this workbook provides eight steps to catalog and evaluate existing data and identify other information which could be useful.
For individual work and group projects, a workflow can organize and document progress and identify roles and tasks. Workflow may be built in a spreadsheet tool. Search templates for ‘gantt’, ‘project plan’, or ‘workflow’ examples. Several free templates are available though a purchase is often required for full functionality: SmartSheet, Canva, Creatley, LucidChart.

This dashboard exploration activity will allow a group, such as library staff, the library board, member libraries, or system staff to identify a specific information need or question, document available data sources, refine a plan to investigate and analyze the topic, and track action steps to build the desired message or report. This activity is intended to foster thoughtful discussion and investigation in a group session and is based on a tool, the Data Inquiry Journal, available within the WISExplore Data Inquiry Process which assists school districts with using WISEdash to inform continuous improvement efforts.
