One of the questions we're frequently asked is how libraries can share local content (by local authors or small presses) through the Wisconsin Public Library Consortium collection.
In the past, adding this content to OverDrive was not appealing, as the content would be available to the world. Now OverDrive has changed their platform to allow for content to be available only to our collection and only for authenticated patrons.
This change opens up the possibilities to negotiate with local authors to secure rights for content that can then be included in the statewide collection.
To explore these possibilities, the Steering Committee of WPLC has approved a pilot project. During this pilot period, libraries are encouraged to upload content to which they have the appropriate rights to the collection and to share their experiences with us.
The pilot will run from August through October. To kick off the project, Anders Brooks from OverDrive presented a webinar on the topic: Watch webinar recording!
We've also added some resources for you to the local content page of the WPLC website: a supplier agreement for the rights holds of the content and step-by-step instructions with some Wisconsin-specific comments.
