The WPLC Project Managers are working with the ALA sharing statistics on ebook and digital audiobook usage at a national level. Larra Clark from ALA is asking for examples of traditional book readers becoming avid ebook readers due to library closures. If you have anecdotes you are willing to share with us, please email wplc-info@wils.org This information will be shared with ALA's media lead, Macey Morales and reporters on a national level so obtaining permission if names are used will be necessary.
We are very excited to announce that, to help support Wisconsin libraries and their patrons during these unprecedented times, the Department of Public Instruction is awarding the WPLC and Wisconsin’s Digital Library $250,000 in LSTA funds as part of an IMLS grant for digital content.
WPLC project managers have created a plan to allocate the funds:
1. Simultaneous Use Titles: Up to $30,000 for ebook and audio titles available for unlimited, simultaneous use for one year from the date of purchase.
Tomorrow, Friday, February 14th, the WI Digital Library will launch a Lucky Day Collection featuring popular front and midlist ebook titles.
The idea behind the Lucky Day Collection is two-fold:
1) To increase patron satisfaction and usage of the shared collection by allowing patrons the possibility to check out in-demand titles without waiting.
2) To circulate titles that have many copies that are no longer in high demand.
Details of the opening Lucky Day collection are as follows:
